The official hydrogen event in Rotterdam spoke to the world’s hydrogen and energy leaders about the future outlook for the hydrogen industry, including the Executive Vice President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans.
What message did you just share with the audience?
Hydrogen has a huge future, our economy will be based on Hydrogen, so we need to really quickly make sure we have the right capacity to produce enough hydrogen for Europe.
If we want to realize a hydrogen economy, what is the first priority?
Well, I think the first priority is to make sure we have enough electricity in green electricity so that we can actually power the electrolyzers. The second priority is to build enough electrolyzers and the third priority is to create the grid so we can get the hydrogen wherever it’s needed.
Can we manage?
I think we can, yes.
What message would you give the ports?
Well, I mean ports have always been essential in commodities, this is a new commodity. This is the commodity of the future, and ports should concentrate on affording the investment to make sure these commodities can be part of their economic model.
What makes this event so important?
It’s special because everyone involved in the hydrogen economy is now coming together. And so instead of staying in their own little corner, they’re trying to make connections across the board. And that’s exactly what we need to be successful.
Any final message you would like to share?
Well, I think the most important thing is to take this message also to the public, so that the public understand that hydrogen is the energy carrier of the future.
